Exclusive Interview With Nicole Dean of EasyPLR.com
Public Label Rights material has become very popular, and is now available all over the internet. Many are claiming what a boon this is for internet marketers, but there are pitfalls to be avoided. I am often asked questions about PLR that reveal how much misunderstanding there is about the subject, and I see a lot of low quality PLR content being used in very indiscriminate ways.
The “queen” of PLR, in my opinion, is Nicole Dean. Nicole is an experienced affiliate marketer, affiliate manager, coach to entrepreneurs, owner of a successful freelance writers site and EasyPLR.com So, when Nicole Dean offered an exclusive interview, I had to take her up on it.
Here’s her interview:
Hi Phil! Thanks so much for inviting me here today.
Let me start by explaining what PLR is, specifically PLR articles. PLR articles are pre-written by writers and are then sold to website publishers to use in their online businesses. A blogger like you or me can buy the articles inexpensively (usually around $1 each) and use them as “drafts” to generate blog content quickly, easily, and affordably.
How can the PLR site owners charge so little for the articles? Simple. The PLR site sells the same articles to multiple people, in essence splitting the costs between several web owners. Rather than searching for and finding a writer and paying more for unique articles, you get access to nearly the same thing for a fraction of the price – and much less hassle.
PLR articles are perfect for those marketers who know they need content, but don’t enjoy writing. It’s also perfect for talented writers who sometimes freeze when staring at a blank screen.
I’m a busy marketer and I have an active life with two kids. I use shortcuts whenever possible. PLR is a great shortcut for internet marketers to ensure that a steady stream of quality content is added to their blogs.
[Phil:] What is the biggest mistake you see people making with PLR material?
There are two huge mistakes that drive me bonkers – not that I have an opinion or anything.
The first one is that most people who purchase PLR do not ever use it. That’s a great thing for those who do, as there is less competition. So, the moral of the story is that it can’t make you money sitting on your hard drive.
The second big mistake that people make is buying junk PLR; that they buy PLR articles that are so bad that it never gets used. I really dislike wasting money. I’m sure you feel the same.
[Phil:] What do you consider sets quality PLR material apart from all the poor stuff offered around the internet?
Unfortunately, there is a lot of poorly written PLR on the internet. It can be hard, sometimes, to know what you’ll get until you open it.
As far as how to determine what is good verses what isn’t? Well, there are a few factors.
1. Grammar & spelling. Writing for the internet is completely different than writing for your High School or College Creative Writing courses, but there should still be standards of quality. If the PLR looks like it was written by a fourth grader, it may have been written by someone who does not have English as their first or even second language, or it may have been written by a writer who is being paid so little that she is trying to write four or more articles per hour just to make it worth her time. (Disclaimer: One of my best friends is an extremely talented and brilliant writer and marketer and English is her second language. I certainly do not mean to imply that it’s not possible. Also, I can not write my way out of a paper box in any language other than English, so I certainly do not imply that I am any better than someone who speaks more than one language fluently enough to write in it.)
2. Valuable Content or Just Fluff? Is the article nothing but fluff? I’ve seen PLR articles that offer absolutely no value whatsoever to the reader. It was just the same thing restated for 400 words. Here’s an example: “Crock pot cooking is a way to save money. You can save money on your meals by cooking with your crockpot. It also helps you to save time. Yes, crock pot cooking can save you time, too, if you’re busy. Both time and money are two things that you can save by cooking with your crockpot. This article will tell you about how you can save time and money by cooking with your crock pot.” – Yes, I’m serious.
The best way to avoid poorly-written PLR is to find a website that has a reputation for offering quality. Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my PLR articles site, as I have thousands of happy customers since 2006.
[Phil:] Can you explode any misconceptions that stop people venturing into using PLR content?
The biggest misconception that people have is that PLR is useless or that ghostwriters write poor quality.
I’ve got to tell you that I’ve worked with some ghostwriters who are stinking brilliant in many ways. Oftentimes, they’re fabulous communicators, smart marketers, and hard working entrepreneurs.
And, yes, they’re qualified to write quality information on many topics on the internet.
For instance, I had a nurse writing my health topics on EasyPLR.com. She needed extra money and so I grabbed her.
I don’t just go to eLance.com and take the lowest bidder. To think that’s how all PLR sites work would certainly be a misconception.
The other myth that isn’t being discussed is that using PLR articles takes away your own value as the expert. I always consider PLR articles as drafts. They are delivered to me, ready for me, as the expert, to add my unique thoughts to them. If you look at PLR like that – you can still keep your personality in your brand – and your sanity at the same time.
[Phil:] What would you say to someone who objects to PLR or ghostwriting as somehow dishonest?
Most biographies in the bookstores are written by ghostwriters.
Most of the famous orations from our history were written by someone other than the public figure who gave the speech.
It’s not cheating to get help. It’s smart marketing.
If you’d like to get more done in less time, and add more value to your websiste, I recommend you click and check out my PLR articles site to see what we’ve got available.

Nicole Dean is right on when it comes to plr. I was one of those people who grabbed plr and left it collecting dust on my pc – however, once I learned the real benefits of using it, it makes providing continuous content a lot easier!
Second that. I Have way too much junk PLR on my hard drive. I have started using it to generate “unique” reports which I upload to various document sharing sites. Also, sections cropped out of plr make great short articles for WEB 2.0 properties and monthly news letters. Thanks for interview.Rob
Thanks for the interview. Yes, PLR and automated content services can work but the trick is to find the quality first so that your own input doesn’t take longer than writing it completely yourself the first time. There is no point in getting any PLR if it needs completely re-writing. I have not looked at your articles yet Nicole but have purchased them with high hopes
Thanks
Peter
Hi Phil,
Nice interview. I don’t need PLR coz I have way too many original ideas and thoughts. I could NEVER possibly write all that I know. So, I guess I have the “opposite problem” to most people. Just too much info in my head waiting to come out.
I don’t like PLR. As Nicole said most of it is piffle. That crock-pot example that she referred to is rampant in PLR. It makes me PUKE! Utter nonsense. And you see it all over the place. That is why I dislike it. In fact, I’m reviled by it. But that’s just my opinion.
Here’s a tip for people who say they can’t write (first that is just negative self-talk telling them that) – READ! Read books about what you want to write about.

Good work Gary
Yes, I believe just about anybody can write. It’s about confidence – what I find works is simply record yourself talking – transcribe this – edit it a little – not too much – and you’ll be surprised how good you can be. Don’t worry about not being Shakespeare.
Peter
Thanks for the comments from all.
@Gary & Peter, whatever content you can produce straight from your own mind / pen (providing you know what you’re talking about) is always going to be the best. And Peter, the method you’ve mentioned is an excellent tip for people.
Some people, however, need help, and hiring a ghostwriter for every piece of content they need is beyind their financial reach.
The problems with PLR in my mind are 3-fold …
1) There’s so much poor quality PLR out there. Answer: you need to avoid that and get the well-written stuff that is available.
2) Most PLR is overexposed. Answer: you need to look for “limited run stuff” (That’s exactly what a few providers like Nicole are doing.)
3) People don’t use PLR correctly. To get a piece, put your name on it and publish it “as is” is not the way to do it. Answer: As Nicole points out – it’s a starting point … a first draft … an outline. You should make it your own to the best of your ability. Edit it, add to it, illustrate it, and so on.
